RESEARCH INTEREST

My main research interest is in fish health, focusing on fish and crustacean parasite, pathology and management. More specifically, I am interested in understanding the diseases of wild and farmed fish /crustacean by studying the interactions between pathogen and host, and pathogenesis. I am also interested on the stress response to environmental and aquaculture related stressors such as changes in water parameters (salinity and temperature) and handling. My basic approach to this research is the use of techniques including histopathology and molecular diagnostic tools. In the field of parasitology, I am currently working on the taxonomy and life cycle of Acanthocephalan from freshwater fish in Kenyir Lake, Terengganu. As a researcher in fish health, I use my knowledge and expertise to help the aquaculture industry by developing products based on natural resources for fish treatment. Currently, I am collaborating with other researchers on developing products for the health improvement of fish and shellfish. I have developed an antiparasite and wound healing treatment from Melaleuca cajuputi extraction. I am currently also looking into the effect of Cymbopogon on freshwater prawn health. Recently, I developed three products namely LeucaFeed, LeucaFix and LeucaDrops. The recent research on Melaleuca and Cymbopogon is still ongoing on fish, shrimp and freshwater prawn health.
